How to Apply to GoTranscript ?
Click the Register button above to Go to GoTranscript.com.If you haven't already applied, you'll click on Apply now and then choose which one you're trying to apply for.So I'm trying to be an English transcriptionist. So I will click on English.
Then go ahead and sign up with your details.Or if you already have an account, like I do,just log in.Now,What you'll do is you'll scroll down to the bottom again and click on work. And then click on Apply now.And it should get you to the test.
GoTranscript Test Part 1 : Multiple Choice:
Okay,I don't know why you have to do that twice. But that's what I had to do once you've logged into the account. So you'll see it says apply for transcriber position,to apply for the transcriber position, you must complete the quiz with 100% accuracy using the GoTranscript Guidelines. So basically, they have a little grammar test for you to fill out.And a lot of these are really simple. For example,to he my brother,I mean, all you have to know is the verb to be,He is my brother. In order to complete the ones I recommend you open up the guidelines by right clicking and opening it in a new window.
Tip : Use CTRL+F to search through guidelines for answers
For example, number 10.They say which sentence is written and capitalized correctly, clean verbatim. So when you're going through the guidelines,if you don't really feel like reading through all of the guidelines to answer this first part of the quiz, you can just go to the guidelines and press CTRL+F on your keyboard to search and then search for something like clean verbatim. For example, with the GoTranscript guidelines. They say slang words must be written as got you instead of gotcha going to instead gonna. So got to instead of gotta.Okay,so just try to find quickly, you know the answers by searching and then you can read through all of these guidelines more carefully, later on once you're doing the audio test.
What if I answer incorrectly ?
So with GoTranscript, you don't have to worry about getting the wrong answers. They just say wrong answers.Try again, wrong answers, try again. Now one thing I want to mention, each question can have more than one answer. So for example, for me number one,I feel terrible. There's two answers here.So just be careful with that, because that might be the reason that you're not getting the answers correct.GoTranscript will constantly change the test. And I think it's random, you're randomly assigned to test.So my test might be different from yours. So again,I'm not going to provide the answers. But if you just search in the transcription guidelines and search in Google,if you haven't dealt with the grammar, then you're fine. Also, you don't have to worry about submitting the wrong answers.I got wrong answers.Try again. So I tried again and you can keep doing that until you get the right answers. But it's not that easy to get in.You do have to read the guidelines, because some of these have multiple answers. And once you're done the test you can click Confirm.
GoTranscript Test Part 2 : Audio Test in 2021
Okay,So I passed the first part of the multiple choice and then you're going to get to this section right here that says apply for transcriber position. To become a transcriber you must do our test using our guidelines you need to transcribe the audio. In other words, you need to type everything that you hear. Also, don't forget to use our transcription rules, the tests Job needs to be done in clean verbatim without time stamping. If you want, you can try doing the old test there, you will see what errors you have made.So this would be a good thing to do if you want to practice.Again, you can open up the GoTranscript guidelines and read through them as you're listening to the file.So this is where I stopped the last time in 2020.Because after listening to their file,I thought this is absolutely impossible to transcribe, because I didn't understand what they were saying at all.So for this file, when I listened to it,it was very easy to understand,I understood everything that she were saying, the only thing that they do is they put in some background noise, the phone is ringing and different things like that.So you have to be careful when you're writing the tags.
So okay, when I went through this test,I understood everything that they were saying, and I think I did a pretty good job of transcribing the file. However, there were some things that I was unclear about. In the guidelines, they talk about how to use different tags.for example,Like I Said Phone rings and background noise. But it wasn't very clear about how they want you to use those tags.So this is something I'm going to have to find out.If I do not get accepted into go transcript.I think it's because I didn't use the tags correctly. For Example, they want you to put phone ringing on a different line, for example,if a women was talking, and then there was a phone ringing in the background,I don't know how if you would put that on a separate line and then continue the line, because the sort of breaks up the transcript. And I don't know if that's what they want.So I do need to find out some clarification on that.If you have pass GoTranscript and you want to give us some clarification,in the comments about what you do,for example,if a Woman is talking and the phone is ringing in the background, would you put that on a separate line after she finishes speaking ? Or would you break it up ? That's something I would like to know.Aside from that the transcript itself was easy to understand. There were a few things you had to go in and look at for example, you know some of the names you had to Google how to spell them, make sure to italicize the titles and things like that.
Submitting your Audio Test Transcript:
And then once you're done,You can click on Send it for review. It says once you send us the completed test, the reviewing process can take up to 60 days.Once their team checks your test, you will get an email letting you know whether you passed or not.
How long will it take for my test to be reviewed ?
Okay, again it says thanks for applying reviewing process can take up to 60 days. But for those who will share their Job offer it will take up to 30 days.So if you go ahead and click share or tweets or something like that, then your transcripts should be reviewed quicker than those who do not do that.Okay,so then I went through that I shared it and then it says you have finished the test and wait while we check it we will send you an email with your results. So either way,you will find out whether or not you have passed this test. But you might have to wait up to 30 or 60 days depending on if you shared it or not.
Reviewing basic GoTranscript transcription guidelines that you need to know for the test:
And now I just want to quickly go over some of the basic transcription guidelines. So something to know with GoTranscript you must have a PayPal or Payoneer account as that is how they make payments. And this is good for a lot of people who cannot get PayPal in their country, but they can get Payoneer Payments are made every weekend on Friday. They also cover the Paypal fee so you don't have to pay any fees and you get the exact amount that you earned. And then here you can see the different format descriptions full verbatim and then clean verbatim. So I would recommend really just studying the clean verbatim because that is what you need to know for the transcription audio test.
They have an example right there of fv which is full verbatim versus clean verbatim. And then again, they have the time stamping types but you do not need to timestamp for the transcription test. And then here they have major rules so make sure you're not to break any of these different rules when you are doing the test. Here it says always use a speaker label even if there is just one speaker. And this is what I was talking about earlier with the sound events. This is where I was confused by it says sounds that the speaker makes are always on the same line and always in the present tense snaps fingers phone rings. But then it says chorus like laughter applause cheering and sounds not from the speaker like phone ringing, coughing etc are always on a separate line.If i don't get accepted into go Transcript,I think it's because I messed up these tags here.
Okay,so that is my only real concern but hopefully you'll get an audio file that doesn't have the phone ringing and so you can follow the guide the other guidelines. They have there.Again, these numbers, you'll need to know this.I think in the test, they like to use some numbers and years and things like that,to make sure that you're following these rules. You'll also need to know this for the multiple choice as you can see there with money. They have exceptions made for readability, you can see here $1,one grand is 1005 bucks is you know,$5 eight quid is eight pounds like this.So just make sure to go through all of these.Okay,so that is basically it for the application process,I went through this and they might get back to me within 30 days or within 60 days.
But as if I'm comparing this test the quality of the audio and how easy it was to understand it is much clearer and much easier to understand. Now in 2021,then the application tests that they had in 2020,which I didn't even bother trying to submit because it was impossible to hear the audio. So it sounds to me like now they have a new woman who is a native English Speaker who is reading different scripts to have a whole bunch of different tests so they are understandable,it's easier to understand them and hopefully the test won't be that difficult and I will be able to get in to get a look at what it looks like once you have been accepted.
